Laptops and ASSESMENTS!

After buying a new laptop.. before it even arrives we get the college ones... nevermind, I don't want to sound ungrateful in the slightest as this has been a godsend for me, especially when it comes to revision as I can revise college material ANYWHERE.

Assesment after assesment after assesment..... well at least it's getting through them, the COS and ITAS ones are the hardest to work through as it's things that you need to do over a number of weeks rather than just being exam like and being over with.

I did however enjoy the change in multimedia content, the html and css is more along the lines of what I feel I should be learning. I am really looking forward to the website building assesment, this will bring out the best in everyone in our class I think.

Meetings and Progress from last post.. and Laptops...

Things in this post..

  • MY PC IS BROKEN!! (Oh noes!)
  • I bought a laptop (Yay!)
  • Student meeting with Senior College Management
  • Class website, forums and IRC channel
  • Revision
OK so my PC... decided to die a death, considering the abuse it has withstood for the last 4 years I didn't think it would go out in such a pathetic way.. I moved it from one side of the room to the other... somewhere in that long journey... my PC lost it's life. RIP My faithful servant.

New Laptop! I just bought a laptop to replace my PC and just because I feel I needed a computer that's mobile since I lead such a busy life. I bought a Sony VAIO VGN-NR11Z/S Which looks like this... *Drools*

The meeting with Aberdeen College Senior Management. I feel this went very well we talked about The laptops for the old H group (They are on the way) Altens is getting a cash machine which is good news for all those who are doing Tech Support next year and are going to be spending lots of time there. Wireless connectivity in the college was also covered, apparently there was an issue in some areas of the college of people not being able to connect to the wireless network. Some other maintenance issues were brought up but nothing too major (Water machines and toilets). The general opinion from all that attended was that Aberdeen college is a place we are all enjoying learning and the problems are minuscule in comparison.

On to the fun stuff!

IRC Channel is up and running #HNCCCE on ICQ. To access this you need to download a IRC client.. you can search on Google or just download mIRC from http://www.mirc.com/
The server is irc.icq.com and the channel is as above. Hope to see you there!

Website and forums, well... I think this should be a joint effort so I'm going to bring it up in class to see who wants to be involved in the design ect. I will probably knock up something temporary tonight.

Revision... hmm this is a tough one, Maybe a few hours on Tuesday afternoon in the libruary? I'll bring this up in class also I think, just in case nobody has read this.

That's all for tonight I think, back to IRC ;)

What I have been doing so far...

We are now in week 11 at college. I will do a post later today to put up what I have been doing in class so far.

Revision...Forums and IRC!

I have decided that it is now getting far enough in to my HNC Computing course that it would be a good time to set out a revision timetable.... Also I think as the half class rep I could possibly make a time that our class could meet and revise together. The people who feel they need to revise that is.. Exams arn't that far away and I feel I'm not just speaking for myself when I say I feel slightly unprepared... I will ask around and see what the general feeling is in relation to the "Class Revision Time".

I had another great idea... We (our class) could put together a website just for our class, have our own forums for discussing problems ect with the course/class or whatever you guys feel we need to discuss. I do relise we have all the information available for the classes on Blackboard (VLE), but I do feel it would also benefit our class to get to know eachother and talk to eachother more about the work we're all doing. Another benefit to doing this is you can all put it on your blogs and be able to say "Look what WE did" which is always good.

Also for any of you IRC fans out there I have made a chatroom for the class :P it is on the ICQ server. irc.icq.com and it is #HNCCCE This will be set up this evening...

This was a pretty productive first entry.. I hope to have many more like it.
